For new artists finishing up their first recordings, mastering is a form of final quality control (possible only in quality environments) in order to prepare and optimize the final mix as transparently as possible for transfer to a digital or analog master copy.
In the days of vinyl records, mastering was a pretty mechanical process of cutting discs, but also the early beginning of making these discs sound better than recordings.
With the advent of the digital age, mastering has evolved more into a creative- engineering process that is now an art form in and of itself, aiming for the best first impression given music can get.
Through mastering, you can get a punchier, loudness-optimized, finalized, shining mix that translates well across all playback systems.
There are also important steps in the mastering process, such as preparing input (in an error-free file format, usually DDP), required by the pressing plant that you’ll need us to complete before your album is ready for duplication.
We can also master your audio for analog outputs such as vinyl LP and cassettes, if you prefer to “kick it old-school”.
